What I Wish I Knew About Building Habits (Not Relying on Motivation)

If you’ve ever started a health routine feeling excited… only to fall off a few weeks later, this is for you.

For the longest time, I thought I was just bad at consistency. I would start working out, then stop. I’d try to eat better, just to fall short by lunch time. I’d promise myself this time will be different and still end up frustrated and discouraged. And every time, I assumed something was wrong with me.

But here’s the truth I wish I knew sooner:

Motivation isn’t the problem and it isn’t the solution either.

Habits are!

Motivation Comes and Goes. Habits Stay.

Motivation is emotional. It depends on how well you slept, how stressful your day was, how busy life feels, or what season you’re in.

If you’re anything like me, some days you wake up ready to take on the world, other days, just getting out of bed feels like a win. If your health is built only on motivation, it will always feel unstable. Put in place the right habits are what keep us on track to reach our goals. They don’t require a perfect mood or a perfect schedule. They just require small, repeatable choices.

Make Smaller Promises to Yourself

One of the biggest mistakes I see women make is trying to change everything at once.New workouts. New diet. New routine. New mindset. It’s exhausting. Real change starts much smaller than we think.

Things like:

  • Drinking water before coffee
  • Adding protein to breakfast
  • Taking a 10‑minute walk
  • Stretching for 3 minutes
  • Going to bed a little earlier

These may seem simple, but when done consistently, they create momentum.

Your body starts to respond. Your confidence grows. Your brain starts to trust you again.

And that trust changes everything.

What This Space Is About

This blog (and my podcast) are here to help guide you to setting up healthier habits that fit your life.

Here we talk about:

  • Simple nutrition changes
  • Routines that work with your busy schedule
  • Staying consistent when motivation disappears
  • Healing your relationship with food and movement
  • Mindset shifts that make healthy habits easier
  • And learning how to start again without guilt

No perfection required.

I hope you know how proud I am of you for showing up. Health is built in the everyday small choices, steady steps, repeated often.

Until next time, take it one meal, one walk, one deep breath at a time. You’ve got this. 🤍
